station automation

Hi,

I am a Volunteer for  the Mount Vernon community television station. My primary purpose is to keep the technical side of the station running, along with filming and editing any local events that occur within a 10 mile radius of our town. In other words, I am responsible for everything that happens with the station. Needless to say, my time is somewhat limited. I do it because because I like doing but would like to produce a half way decent service.

What I need is some direction on automating the various dvds and films I get so that they can run at specifice times during the day. I know there is software and hardware out there but, being somewhat green in this area, I haven't a clue as to what exactly I need and where i can get it.

I currently use Pinnical editing software to create a DVD "movie" of local information and who's whos in the town. This movie loops on a dvd player throughout the day. I play music from local musicians that I load into windows media player and repeat throughout the day.

I'd like to be able to schedule other dvds to play at specifice times. We work on a small budget with only about $2500 a year to spend on supplies and equipment.

If anyone can give me some good advice and direction I'd appreciate it.very much.

Sincerely,

 Mark Gilbert

(MTTV) Mount Vernon ,Maine.

Mark,

With that small a budget, there really isn't much you will be able to accomplish in the way of hard- or software.  A high speed computer alone would eat up at least half of that budget, and you haven't loaded any software yet!!!
There may be some equipment out there that will automate some DVD decks and some tape players via infra-red control, but you will have to go looking for it.
To give you an example, I use a Tightrope Cablecast/Carousel (www.trms.com).  Without a video server, DVD carousel, or any other hardware to play the programming, just the automation system computer and software (Cablecast), you're already around $10K.  It's the automation system that will get you!!!!  A Synergy system would cost even more!!!  A small video server would cost at least $4K.
If you would like to talk about this, please feel free to give me a call.
